Now Open! Duke University’s Foreign Educated PT Course
Dear Colleagues and Readers,
For Muslims around the world, Ramadan is starting, and we would like to wish them a Ramadan Mubarak!
Every year and at least 10-11 days earlier, Muslims observe Ramadan. This holy month is a time for reflection and prayer, as Muslims believe the angel Gabriel spoke the first words of the Quran (Islam’s holy book) to the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH).
This year, we also welcome our new website, which will continue to change as we improve our services. Our focus is on providing affordable courses to our community in Africa and improving access to certain educational products that we find useful and important in our region.
Our flagship offer is the transitional DPT from the University of Montana. The course is meant for physical therapists looking to achieve degree equivalency with their US counterparts and improve their leadership and evidence-based practice in the clinic. So far, our program has attracted several candidates, and we continue endorsing the University of Montana for several reasons:
-
High-rating DPT program
-
The only university in the US with a tuition structure that takes into account the GDP and economic rating of the applicant’s country.
-
Highly trained staff who are deeply engaged in directing the policy on physical therapy practice and education.
-
The university offers an accelerated option for those who wish to finish in about two years and three semesters per year.
-
Tuition can be paid in installments, improving financial access for those working and paying their way through college.

Now let’s see what is new:
This year, we introduce our Philippine option for those seeking or knowing somebody seeking to study their undergraduate studies abroad. Usually, our clients know what they want, and they want to study in a system that is well-established, flows smoothly, and is accessible. Our advice for those who don’t want to shell out tens of thousands of dollars per year to study medicine or engineering in Europe or the US is to try the Philippines. It surpasses the Bahamas’ ease of access and has an affordable tuition structure and reasonable accommodation. We ease the transition by providing visa support, accommodation, and university enrollment. Having a partner during your education in a foreign country is beneficial because changing systems and living abroad on your own can be challenging.
Another addition this year is our Study in Michigan page. We felt it would be selfish of us if we didn’t do our best to bring Michigan to the world. The universities here are top notch and there are sufficient choices for everyone. Showcasing these universities and being a reference point for our community is an integral part of our portfolio, and we are still growing in this regard with local and international partners.
Many of you may also have seen the Pathway to US tab on the site. We intend to support physical therapists seeking to come to the US or at least receive a US license. So, basically, after all the hurdles we have been through this year, we have some valuable advice for those seeking to establish or license themselves, and it could save you thousands of dollars.
We hope to expand this year beyond our usual horizons because, like you, we feel that growing is best, and we hope that we can assist our community in whatever capacity. In the meantime, while our site is still under construction, we appreciate your feedback and ideas, so please feel free to visit and drop us an email with your opinions. If you would like more information, we are available.
For those interested in enrolling in the tDPT, the semester is approaching, so please make sure your applications are submitted before March 30.
We are seeking to expand our services in neighboring African countries, so if you have some contacts in our region of operation, especially West Africa and East Africa, please feel free to contact us so we can arrange a virtual meeting and conference with those groups.
Finally, Duke University has opened enrollment for its two-credit course for foreign-educated physical therapists. “The main objective of this online course is to provide foundational knowledge of the complexities and nuances of physical therapy policy, practice, and regulation in the United States that are critical to moving toward licensure and then practice. This 10-week online course aims to provide internationally educated physical therapists with an overview of the healthcare system across the United States and the culture and context in which physical therapy is practiced. It is assumed that participants in this online course seek to establish physical therapy educational equivalency in the United States and are planning to sit for the National Physical Therapy licensure exam.
In this course, learners will be exposed to a diverse range of topics, including cultural competence, the role of the federal and provincial governments, acts and regulations guiding PT practice, and client-centered care in various PT roles and settings. Successful participants will earn 2.0 Duke University credits.” (2024, Duke website)
If you are interested in the course, the fee schedule is as follows:
-
$50 University administrative fee (non-refundable)
-
$850 Course fees
If you require Syllabi’s assistance, we can assist with your enrollment and will charge you $100 after assessing your eligibility.
The only requirements are good English, at least a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy, a credential evaluation (if available), and a computer with internet to complete the ten weeks of study and assignments. This course is a great start toward understanding the working regulations and environment for physical therapists in the US.
